How to Use Seedhi Baat in Your Regional Language

Published 11 May 2026Share on X (Twitter)

India has 22 scheduled languages under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, and hundreds of millions of citizens are more comfortable expressing civic concerns in their mother tongue than in English. Seedhi Baat is built vernacular-first.

Languages Available at Launch

Seedhi Baat launches with 12 languages: Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Assamese, and Urdu. Every string in the app — buttons, labels, confirmation messages, and feedback categories — is fully translated. There is no English-Hindi mixing when another language is active.

How to Switch Languages

The language selector appears in the navigation bar as a row of script labels. Tap your language once — the entire interface switches immediately. Your language preference is saved locally, so you never have to switch again on the same device.

Sharing feedback in Your Language

Feedback can be shared in any of the 12 supported languages. The system stores it as-is and sends it to the MP's constituency office in the language you wrote it in. This matters: your MP's local staff likely reads Hindi, Marathi, or Tamil far better than English.

Why Vernacular-First Matters for Civic Tech

A 2023 TRAI report found that 70% of Indian internet users access the web primarily in a regional language. Apps that require English effectively exclude the majority of India's 900 million voters from participating in digital governance. The Constitution under Article 343-351 establishes Hindi and other Eighth Schedule languages as official languages — Seedhi Baat honours this by making all languages first-class citizens, not afterthoughts.

Indic Script Rendering

Seedhi Baat uses system-ui fonts for Indic scripts, which ensures correct rendering on Android and iOS without requiring font downloads. Devanagari, Tamil, Telugu, and other scripts display correctly at all font sizes.
